At Special Kids, our mission is to serve Jesus Christ by caring for His children with special healthcare needs. We achieve this by offering compassionate, skilled nursing services, and a variety of outpatient therapies—occupational, physical, speech, and feeding—to children from birth through age 21.
Who We Serve
Since 1998, Special Kids has been dedicated to supporting the Middle Tennessee community, with a focus on Rutherford County and surrounding areas. Our goal is to help children overcome challenges and reach their full potential, improving their quality of life through our skilled nursing and therapy services.
Our Services
Pediatric Skilled Nursing: Our team of state-licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants provide care for children who are medically fragile.
We offer outpatient therapy—occupational, physical, feeding, and speech—delivered by licensed professionals. Every service we provide is prescribed by a physician, and each child's plan of care is tailored to their unique needs. We work closely with families, providing weekly updates and education to ensure therapy is carried over into the home. Regular reports and re-evaluations are shared with both parents and physicians to track each child's progress.
According to the Health Resources and Services Administration, 1 in 5 children in the United States under the age of 18 has special healthcare needs. In Rutherford County alone, the population is projected to exceed 359,045 by 2024, meaning an estimated 17,736 children may require specialized care.
Currently, 80% of the children we serve reside in Rutherford County. Among these children, speech therapy is the most utilized service, with Autism being the most common diagnosis. We treat children from birth to 21 years, with the largest age group being children between 3 and 7 years old, representing 57% of those we care for.
Your support is an essential part of our mission, allowing us to continue providing the skilled care and therapies these children need. We invite you to join us in fundraising and making an even greater impact on the lives of the children we serve. Together, we can make a difference!
